25th Amendment, NOW!

If Mike Pence has a shred of a spine left, he needs to do what we all know he must do.

Republicans are crowing about unity… to them I say, if you want to avoid a lengthy impeachment, get your man on the inside (Pence) to invoke the 25th amendment.

Mike Pence will go down in history as the snivelling henchman, the sycophantic Vice President who literally fiddled while everything burned. If he wants to salvage even a thread, a mere crumb, of a reputation going forward, he must see to it that Trump is removed from office. If he put his neck on the line, the cabinet would get a whole lot braver. However, it is of course the case that Pence is where he is today, exactly because he won’t do the aforementioned.

President Trump shouldn’t be in office a second longer. He’s encouraged insurrection, whipped up hate and violence, and revealed the ugly true face of America, the face always there behind the mask, but now exposed to the fresh air. That’s why much of the US establishment hates him, and is distancing themselves: he exposes what they really are, what the whole system is really built for.

Impeachment will be divisive, it’ll knock the Biden Presidency off course, and it’ll further polarise politics, inciting even more far right violence. This is no reason to shy way from it, justice has to be done, consequences have to be in place for any POTUS who attempts such a shameless breach, such a blatant power grab, ever again. So, if Pence and republicans really want healing, let’s either see the 25th remove Trump from office, in which case all this can deescalate, or let’s see a bipartisan impeachment, repudiating what’s happened.

The sad truth is we’ll likely get neither.
