Scotland should hold the referendum if they win a majority.
If a majority of the Scottish people hand the SNP a mandate, they would be well within their rights to hold an Indy referendum, and dare Westminster to challenge them.
It’s being reported this Sunday that the SNP will attempt a referendum without the consent of Westminster, if it is denied upon their 2021 landslide. This is quite right. For the people of Scotland, a vote for an Independent Scotland is a punch to the status quo, a reset of their politics, and the chance to foster a genuine alternative.
Much like when the establishment coalesced around Remain, the establishment will once again coalesce around In, but the Scottish people must remember how these bastards have denied them their right to self determination for far too long, and are hostile to handing them more sovereign powers. The union isn’t working for the people of Scotland, and they know Indy is the way to go.
If that mandate is handed, by the Scottish people, to the Scottish parliament, for a majority pro-Indy government, then whatever any of us in England or down in Westminster think about a second Indy referendum is irrelevant, and none of our business. A majority will have spoken, and that’s a majority for a second Indy referendum that there never was for a second Brexit referendum. One was a clamour manufactured by the establishment, one is genuine and grassroots.
Solidarity with my Scottish comrades fighting for an Independent, socialist Scotland. There are many forces working to stop them, but if they succeed, then we know anything is possible.
