The Trump era is over, but our work hasn’t even begun.

The Biden era isn’t a new friendly era of complacency, Joe Biden is hostile to progressive priorities, and we’ll have to squeeze any progress out of him by pressure from below.

The Donald Trump Presidency finally screeches to a close, and we can all celebrate. A truly awful man is being routed out of office today, and that’s a wonderful thing.

So many people with progressive sympathies in America today will be tempted to sit back and enjoy stable governance, assuming now the Democrats have the White House, House, Senate trifecta they’ve wanted for so long, that they’ll automatically do good. Making such a conclusion and existing in that mindset, would be a fatal error.

Joe Biden and the Democratic establishment he’s heading to Washington to represent are hostile to progressive priorities, and anything remotely left of centre. We will have to fight hard to win the battles of today and tomorrow, and still then not get much through.

Things can, and they will, change, but only with massive, unprecedented, downstream pressure on the Biden administration, that make the Trump era mobilisations look like child's play. There must be no honeymoon period simply because it’s a Democrat administration, we must fight like hell from day 1, from today.

That’s right, we must go bigger, not shrink away, during the Biden years. Young people and progressive voters are hungry for change, and won’t take the usual capitulating bullshit that many swallowed under Obama, giving Hope And Change (tm) the benefit of the doubt. Not this time, this time we rise like lions after slumber, and demand Joe Biden repays the debt he owes young voters, black and Latino voters, organisers, and all the disparate groups who rallied behind his campaign and carried the antiquated relic over the line.

If nothing changes, we take on this administration with no holds barred in he exact same way we dealt with the Trump administration. We cannot take for granted this being a less hostile administration that Trump’; that will only be so if we make it so.
