Trump wallows in delusion.

President Trump is unhinged. We already knew this, but yet more evidence piled up yesterday, as that fateful recording emerged. Trump is completely residing in his own concocted world of delusion, and totally convinced he won the election. He knows he lost, but he won't consciously accept it, never will, and will always cry fraud. But hearing the President shouting nonsense at election officials really typified what a dire place we’re now in; the man is an unstable despot.

What happens now is anyone’s guess. Various sources think that POTUS may have broken the law by ENCOURAGING voter fraud and tampering with the votes on the course of that phone call. Proceedings would be counterproductive, he’s on the way out of office, but he should be held accountable once he’s left the hot glow of the Presidency, and returns to being a lowly private citizen once more, with no extra immunity to prosecution. If Trump faces no consequences for this shitshow, the next Republican President will get away with it AGAIN.

The court of public opinion hasn't repudiated this by anything more than a narrow majority, so the court of law must do its duty and make it untenable to act like this in office ever again, setting out a clear deterrent for the next Trump-in-waiting. Trump’s cabinet, if they have a shred of public duty in them, should use the 25th Amendment and remove him from the duties of office, he is manifestly, objectively, apolitically, unfit.

This phone call really was stunning, but nothing will shift. Trumpist allies are talking about an attempt to reschedule the Jan 20th inaugural ceremony (would indirectly make Nancy Pelosi acting President on that date, so a non-starter for them). Pence is on board with the grift, and the whole thing has descended into a dangerous trench fight right out until the end. Let’s steel our spines, and make sure these snivelling cowards don’t get away with it.
